What is Ozempic

Ozempic is an injectable.  Ozempic is a brand name under Semaglutide which belongs to the family of Glucagon-Like Peptide (GLP-1) agonist. It works by copying the action of a hormone called Glucagon-Like Peptide (GLP-1) which our bodies produce after we eat.  When this hormone is released, it tells our brain that we are full.  By acting like this hormone, Semaglutide makes us less hungry and less likely want to eat.  As a result, it lowers our overall calorie intake and help us lose weight slowly.

How Does Semaglutide (Ozempic) Work?

Semaglutide helps control blood sugar and weight by:

  • Reconfigures the ‘hunger and craving hormones’, and acting on the brain’s reward centre, lowers the desire for food
  • Reduces production of the hormone that causes and increase in sugar while fasting, resulting in optimal levels of sugar while fasting
  • Increases the hormone production that reduces the amount of sugar in the blood, particularly after eating.

This causes you to eat less, feel fuller for longer, lose weight, and slow the release of glucose from your food.  Additionally, it slows, the emptyng of the stomach
